along with other dietary changes and supplements below.

Part A: Adrenal Function
Part B: Hypoimmune
Part C: Hyperimmune

Part A: Adrenal Function

12 - 20+ High Priority
6 - 11 Moderate Priority
1 - 5 Low Priority

If you scored anywhere between 6 (Moderate) and 20+ (High) you should be aware of the importance of the adrenals.

The adrenal glands are just above the kidneys. There are two parts, adrenal medulla and the adrenal cortex. The medulla is related to the sympathetic nervous system and secretes hormone epinephrine, adrenaline and norepinephrine (noradrenaline). These hormones stimulate the fight-or-flight response. They maintain normal nervous control over many involuntary functions such as heart rate, respiration, and digestion.

The cortex secretes another kind of hormones. These are formed from cholesterol. They are cortisol, corticosterone and cortisone and they affect the metabolism of glucose. They increase serum glucose and reduce inflammation and allergic response. Aldosterone increases the retention of sodium and the excretion of potassium. The primary sex hormone produced by the adrenal gland is androgen.

There are 3 phases of the biological change from stress:

  1. Release of adrenaline and other stress-related hormones

  2. The glucocorticoids stimulate protein to convert to energy and the mineral corticoids retain sodium to maintain an elevated
    blood pressure.

  3. Then comes exhaustion—the cells lose potassium and die; the glucocorticoids become depleted and hypoglycemia sets in.

With exhaustion come all or some of these conditions: P.M.S. , rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis, ulcers, angina, asthma, autoimmune disease, cancer, cardiovascular disease, colds, diabetes type II, depression, headaches, hypertension, immune suppression, irritable bowel syndrome, menstrual irregularities.

For some of these diseases, cortisone is suggested; however in the long run, it shrinks the adrenal cortex.

Some ideas to help support the adrenal gland are these:

    • Astragalus improves adrenal gland function and aids in stress reduction.

    • Avoid alcohol, tobacco, and caffeine. They are toxic to the adrenals.

    • These foods put stress on the adrenals - fats, fried foods, ham, pork, red meat, sodas, sugar, white flour, and highly processed foods.

    • Eat cold-water fish 3 times a week, salmon or tuna.

    • Take Vitamin B complex 100mg twice daily.

    • Take pantothenic acid 100mg 3 times daily.

    • Take Vitamin C with bioflavonoids 4000-10,000mg daily in divided doses.

    • L-Tyrosine 500mg daily—it aids the adrenal glands. Don't take with milk. Don't take with MAO inhibitor. Take on an empty stomach.

Part B: Hypoimmune

12 - 30+ High Priority
6 - 11 Moderate Priority
1 - 5 Low Priority

Any number of points under this section should be considered worth improving because of the importance of the immune system in protecting each one of us against disease.

The lymph nodes, spleen, bone marrow, thymus and tonsils are all part of the immune system. The immune system also includes lymphocytes, specialized white blood cells, antibodies, and interferon. It is the immune system that fights off disease causing microorganisms.

The aging process, overwork, chronic insomnia, chemicals in household cleaners, overuse of antibiotics, pesticides, additives in our foods, environmental pollution, and stress are all challenges to a healthy immune system.

All forms of sugar, including honey, interfere with the ability of the white blood cells to fight bacteria.

Common signs of a compromised immune system are:

  1. Fatigue

  2. Listlessness

  3. Repeated infections

  4. Chronic diarrhea

  5. Slow wound healing

  6. Inflammation

  7. Allergic reactions

  8. Thrush

  9. Yaginal yeast infections

  10. Candida overgrowth throughout the system

Here are some things you may do to improve the condition of your immune system.

    • Garlic has natural antibiotic activity

    • Astragalus generates anti-cancer cells and boosts the immune system

    • Maitake mushrooms fight viral infections and cancer

    • Zinc may increase immune function. Try 25 - 100mg per day. Over 100mg a day may depress immune function.

    • Vitamin A helps protect the skin and mucus membranes, even the lungs, from invading microorganisms.

    • Vitamin C elevates the interferon levels.

    • Vitamin E is a scavenger of free radicals

    • Lactobacillus Acidophilus produces acids that kill invading bacteria

    • One of the most potent antioxidants is Grapeseed extract.

A good comprehensive antioxidant formula contains many of the above ingredients.

Part C: Hyperimmune

15 - 45+ High Priority
5 - 14 Moderate Priority
1 - 4 Low Priority

If you scored anywhere between 5 (Moderate) and 45+ (High) you may consider the following information to benefit your immune system.

Our immune system has several jobs; one is to fight illness, one is to gather information on the disease and report to the various cells and organs which are a part of the system, another part produces ammunition which will destroy invaders. All of these jobs keep us safe from bacteria, viruses, yeast, or fungal infections. The common causes of a poorly functioning immune system are: adrenal exhaustion, poor diet, autotoxemia from constipation, the inability to relax, overgrowth of candida, prolonged use of aspirin or cortico-steroid drugs, and calcium depletion.

A person with a poorly functioning immune system may also have food allergies, anemia, colitis, lung and bronchial congestion, and liver malfunction.

Some of the things that we can do to strengthen the immune system are:

Eat good foods: low-fat, high complex carbohydrates, vegetables and fruits. Avoid sugar, red meats, starch, dairy products. Eat plenty of fiber, at least 35 grams per day, to avoid constipation.

    • Avoid stress as much as you can and try some method of relaxing.

    • Exercise - walking and jumping on the mini-trampoline increase our defense system.

    • Pau D'Arco - cleans the blood and strengthens the immune system.

    • Astragalus - aids the adrenal gland function

    • Thymus Extract - boosts the immune deficiencies

    • Echinacea - stimulates the immune response and increases the body's ability to resist infection.

    • Burdock Root is one of the best blood purifiers.

    • Milk Thistle - stimulates production of new liver cells

    • Vitamin A - increases resistance to infections

    • Vitamin E - deactivates free radicals that promote cellular damage leading to malignancy

    • Vitamin C - can activate white blood cells to fight foreign substances and increase the production of interferon

    • B vitamins - protect the immune system and the nervous system. They help build blood, protect the body against infection, and help produce antibodies.

    • Zinc - increases the activity of the T-cells

    • Calcium - prevents heavy metals from accumulating

    • Probiotics - to restore friendly bacteria to the intestinal system
