Part B: Hypothyroid
The thyroid gland is the body's internal thermostat. It regulates the body temperature by secreting two hormones that control how quickly the body burns calories. Too little hormone results in hypothyroidism or underactive thyroid. To check yourself for an underactive gland, place a thermometer by your bedside. When you first wake up, put the thermometer under your arm for 10 minutes. Don't move around until done. Do this for five days. A temperature of 97.6 or lower may be indicative of an underactive gland. These symptoms may be a result of a underactive thyroid.
